In the Sala della Loggia of the Maschio Angioino, the 2026/2027 edition of the festival that brings great theatre into Naples's places of art and memory was unveiled. Wunderkammer is the itinerant theatre festival that for years has combined artistic quality with the enhancement of the city's historical, monumental and architectural heritage.
The edition comes under the slogan «A spizzichi e bocconi» (bit by bit): a nod to the idea that theatre, like cooking, is born from combining different ingredients to create something new and unexpected. A proven formula that over the years has turned monuments, churches, libraries, museums, palaces, archaeological sites and courtyards into exceptional stages.
"Theatre is made by kneading, waiting, tasting."
The initiative is supported by FAI – Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano, the Academy of Fine Arts, the Order of Architects of Naples and the moral patronage of the City of Naples.
A city that takes part
Carlo Puca, Councillor for the City's Image and Active Participation, underlined the value and the reach of Naples's cultural offering.
"Culture and beauty are the first safeguard of legality, and where they are present they help places to grow. I thank the organisers, who have carried this initiative for 14 years now with their own resources. To take part is not only to ask or to receive: it is also to give and to contribute to the city's growth. My greatest praise goes to them." Carlo Puca — Councillor for Image and Participation
Councillor Toti Lange highlighted the project's social and ethical impact and the virtue of the initiative.
"The City of Naples's programming is particularly rich, articulated and varied — not only for what it manages to put on in house, but for the many private associations, made of volunteers who love the city and want to make a real contribution to the richness of the cultural offering. Wunderkammer, active for 14 years, fits perfectly into this line: a chance to see performances in venues sometimes little known to Neapolitans and tourists alike." Toti Lange — City councillor
The stages
The new season reaffirms Wunderkammer's mission: to break down the barriers of traditional theatre and immerse audiences in the living history of the city. The exceptional stages include the Antisala of the Maschio Angioino, the Filangieri pavilion of the Istituto Palizzi, the library of the Società Napoletana di Storia Patria and that of the Museum of Health Arts, the former Lazaretto of the Ospedale della Pace and the former refectory of the monumental complex of San Domenico Maggiore.
For the 26/27 season, Kind of Blue created Wunderkammer's visual identity — campaign, posters, programme and social.
